When a love of music and concerts becomes part of your love story, it makes sense to plan a wedding at Red Rocks on the brink of summer. Anthony and Laurann met long before they fell in love. In the deserts of Arizona they went from friends to a couple. And all it took was one haircut to change the course of their lives for good.
At our first meeting, they were just getting ready to go out on the town. I was getting ready for a glass of wine and bed. So to say they are adventurous is an understatement. One of their favorite memories together is a month-long adventure across multiple states. They took 5 flights, attended 7 sporting events, relaxed over 2 spa days, and saw 2 shows. However, it’s their connection and ability to enjoy each other that ultimately defines them.
Anthony and Laurann’s wedding weekend was gorgeous. “We have really good people around us.” That is evident with so many of the moments I was able to document. Starting with the rehearsal dinner.
Morrison embodies true mountain town spirit. It’s the small community tucked into Colorado’s eastern foothills and home to Red Rocks amphitheater. There are quaint restaurants that create from scratch, walking trails, and tourist shops. But around the corner where it isn’t obvious, sits a stunning private property along Bear Creek.
What Laurann wrote of Anthony in their questionnaire: “I’ve never met a human like Anthony & I’m pretty sure 99.9% of people can say the same. The biggest thing that drew me in was seeing him in every day situations where someone is in need: whether that be opening a door, stopping for someone stranded on the side of the road, going out of his way to help out his 80 year old friends with things in their homes, or giving his dad a KIDNEY. His giving nature and selflessness is something like I’ve never experienced before in my life.” This extends to meeting a Coloradan who happened to need real estate purchase in Arizona. The two became best friends and fast forward to wedding weekend, this friend’s parents offered their incredible backyard for a private, catered rehearsal dinner.
The home caught fire years ago and was slowly, single-handedly rebuilt by them using only reclaimed materials. It’s not just a house, but a labor of love. Which also extends to their immaculate garden. The poppies were popping.
The rehearsal dinner was authentic, light, and intimate. Anthony’s mom spoke from her heart and Lauren, who coordinated the entire weekend, thought of every detail. Even ending the night with a cake piñata and s’more bar.
Weather forecasts can’t always be trusted. And so we hoped the rain would hold off long enough. As I arrived, Lauren was arranging floral centerpieces on gold stands. The wait staff was busy stocking drinks and making sure each set of silverware was perfect. The sun was out, at first.
Red Rocks architecture is pure raw and rugged beauty. As soon as I stepped into The Trading Post Backyard I was taken by the expanse of rock formations and mountains. The contrast of reds, blues, and greens is a sight that demands attention. It’s overlooking that view where Anthony and Laurann’s ceremony took place.
Laurann was stunning as she walked down the double flights of stairs to her dad. Her plunging neckline and deep side slits were elegantly lined with rhinestones. Her bouquet was simple but timeless. And even though rain had moved in, it only seemed to match with this adventurous couple. Under umbrellas and with Anthony’s grandmother officiating, I remember Anthony saying, “I almost gave up.” Because sometimes love comes later. Sometimes the timeline is different than expected. In their case, it was worth the wait.
As they spoke vows and pledged their commitment with a kiss, the party officially started.
Spring in Arizona is HOT. Spring in Colorado might bring snow. With coats and shawls, the reception began and drinks started pouring.
The first dance was emotional, speeches were on point, and the party didn’t stop. You know how some people can dance? Like really, actually dance? That was this crowd. And once the custom trucker hats were passed around, things got good. I’m talking one-handed drinks in the air, dropping to the floor, belting beats kinda dancing.
But what I saw through all that was the way Anthony and Laurann were having the time of their lives, with the people of their lives. Almost every reception I document has the same songs, similar dances. It’s the community, support, love, and connection that makes it unique from any other party.
